Lavish "Climbs" to New Heights

Nicole, Kellie, April, and Erika

We had our annual meeting last week at Hangar 18 in Riverside, a local rock climbing facility; representing our theme for 2011..."Climbing to New Heights." That's exactly what Lavish is doing, and the outreach, networking, dedication, and motivation Samantha has been helping us all drive toward will certainly give us the opportunities to achieve this goal.

 and the foundation of Lavish

Our team leaders, Sam, Nicole, Sarah and Cecy worked hard putting together our numbers for 2010, revamping our foundation in policies and services, and we all came up with new goals for the new year. It's always nice to see what we have done over the last year with physical evidence to look at so we can see our possibilities and what kind of goals will make progress, but are still attainable at the same time. Friends, be excited for what 2011 will bring, the same Lavish environment, but with more opportunities, better services, and a lot of networking and promotions for you to enjoy!!

A huge part of what makes Lavish different than other salons is how we focus on working together. There isn't a huge amount (but definitely a healthy amount ;) ) of competition between the girls because we largely focus on the "team" aspect of our business. My favorite part of this meeting, personally, was the personality test we took to differentiate how we all think, perform, and accept gratitude from one another. We all learned how to interact with each other, which will greatly improve our teamwork that makes us so strong.

I know you must be thinking at this point where the rock climbing comes in other than as the archetype from which our meeting stemmed...well, we definitely got our workout on and had some friendly competition in this sport that most of us had never even attempted before. I honestly didn't go into it thinking that I'd have a good time climbing up a wall that seemed like it would be really hard and all I would get out of it was a sore body and muscles I didn't know I had. I was wrong. The LG's split up into 3 groups and learned the basics of knot tying, belaying, and climbing...then came the contest. All around the structure were different climbing courses that went straight up to the ceiling about 50 feet up, with color-coordinated rocks according to difficulty. Luckily we were allowed to use any rock to make our way up the fastest to grab our assigned colored envelopes with puzzle pieces. 12 envelopes altogether, and 13 exhausted LG's made for a close finish but we all had a great time realizing the adrenaline and athleticism that came out in all of us "girly-girls" ;) Check out some of the photos from our day, you might be inspired to climb to new heights yourself!

Color Zoom Paris 2010

So, we all know my boss, the owner of Lavish herself, Samantha is an amazing stylist, but did you know she is also a Goldwell Educator and master colorist through them?? Yep, she is one talented woman, and the reason Lavish has had such a success in acknowledgement in it's short 4-year lifespan. There are some perks to being good at what you do in your industry and the annual Goldwell Color Zoom convention is one event that is huge in the salon industry.

Just a few months ago the 2010 convention was held in Paris, France and our very own Brandy was the lucky stylist who earned her spot to go with Samantha! The girls spent a few days in Paris at the convention learning new techniques, new color lines, a hair fashion show, and much more that they brought back here to share with us. They also spent some time sight seeing in Paris, and even got a chance to go to Germany (Goldwell is a German company), seeing castles and the beautiful countryside. It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience and all the Lavish girls are working extra hard in 2011 so we all get a chance to experience Color Zoom this year, in Miami!

Lavish Goes Loco for the Ronald McDonald House

Our Lavish Girls had the most wonderful experience last Monday, December 13th to have the priviledge of donating services to the families at the Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House. The girls gave haircuts, manicures, eyebreow waxing, and massages and were there from 10am to about 4pm. I personally thought the experience was very rewarding and fulfilling. I got to give a couple men a fresh haircut, one of whom in particular was in the service and told me that he was used to having his hair cut every couple of weeks. Since his baby had been in the hospital, living at the House didn't give him the chance to get his routine cut. I could tell that just this small thing contributed to his confidence and self-esteem, which is exactly the feeling we love getting when someone feels good about themselves.
The staff there also shared with us how much it really meant to the families to have a little time for themselves out of their normally stressful routines to and from the hospital. Here are a few photos from our day with these loving families...

This Christmas tree represents those who have passed away who were once a part of the Ronald McDonald family. It was a real eye opener for the reality of the situation some of these families are in. Our prayers go out to everyone who passes through this house and we just want them to know what a blessing it was serving them and making them feel special in the little ways that can mean so much. <3
